A Dummy on Web Writing

Here’s to the start of the Fall 2010 semester of the Masters of Internet Technology program. This semester should be fun and exciting. The first blog for this semester is about Writing for the Web. Writing for the Web is a major aspect for a website’s usability. Considering the user’s experience, tools, process, team and current updates are important characteristics for writing for the web. A good writer understands most web users scan the content. Since users scan, writers should use keywords and break the content into chunks.

The web writer should be surrounded by a solid team, tools and process. Once the team is formed, the message of the website should be understood. The site structure, design and development should flow smoothly when surrounded by a solid team, tools and process.

It is important to keep the website content up-to-date. A marketing campaign, event, merger, etc. may cause a need to update website. With proper date planning the website can be easier managed and updated regularly. The Smoking Gun website is updated regularly. They probably have more than one web writer!
